The on-line journal Sexuality, Health and Society is a project by the Latin American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights (CLAM-IMS/UERJ), seeking to promote the exchange of Latin American scholarly production and its dissemination among researchers, activists and policymakers. The Journal will welcome unpublished articles which, focusing on the contexts of countries in the region, explore the cultural and political dimensions of sexuality. Its main areas of interest are:

a) The practices and social representations about sexualities/eroticism and their connections with various markers of social difference (gender, class, color/race, ethnic/national origin, generation/life stages, etc.);

b) The role of public policy, legal orders and the action of various actors from civil society (social movements, religious groups, NGOs, funding agencies, etc.) in the process of institution of sexual and reproductive rights;

c) The forms of knowledge and sciences that have sexuality as their object, with emphasis on the role of public and collective health in research and in public policy development.

The Journal will privilege the perspective of the Humanities and the Social Sciences. Articles may be written in one of three languages (Spanish, Portuguese or English). The contributions may include theoretical discussions, the analysis of empirical research results and/or literature review within the Journal’s subject area.

Sexuality, Health and Society - A Latin American Journal will be published using Electronic Journal Editing System (SEER) for its elaboration and editorial management, part of the OJS (Open Journal System) international initiative. The Journal’s website will be on-line starting in the coming month of September, welcoming manuscripts to enter the peer-review process. First issue should be published by April 2009.
